Mental Health Awareness

In 2016/17, the HSE (Health, Safety Executive) research showed that 12.5 million working days lost due to individuals experiencing work-related mental ill health (namely stress, depression or anxiety)  with 526,000 people (40% of all work-related illness) in the UK reporting work-related stress at a level they believed was making them unwell. Psychological problems, including stress, anxiety and depression, are behind one in five visits to a GP. In 2018 for Mental Health Awareness Week, the focus is on stress, with The Mental Health Foundation reporting that over the last year 74% of people have at some point felt so stressed that they have felt overwhelmed, unable to cope, and a number... National Stress Awareness Day 2017

Stress is your body’s way of responding to any kind of demand. It can be caused by both good and bad experiences. When people feel stressed by something going on around them, their bodies react by releasing chemicals into the blood. These chemicals give people more energy and strength, which can be a good thing if their stress is caused by physical danger. But this can also be a bad thing, if their stress is in response to something emotional and there is no outlet for this extra energy and strength. Many different things can cause stress from physical (such as fear of something dangerous) to emotional (such as a... Read More

Kairan’s Black History Month Hero 2017

My Black History Month Hero is Barack Obama due to my admiration of his leadership during his presidency. I truly believe that everybody has a responsibility to lead by example and understand that it’s not about one single person being accountable for all change but it is about one person inspiring and leading to achieve. We need to internalise this idea of excellence. Not many folks spend a lot of time trying to be excellent. On November 4, 2008, Senator Barack Obama of Illinois was elected president of the United States over Senator John McCain of Arizona. Obama became the 44th president, and the first African American to be elected to that... Read More
