Hello, I’m Emma a Junior HR Consultant at You HR Consultancy
Having graduated with a BSc in Nutrition, Health & Wellbeing in 2014, I embarked on a career in PR & Comms in the sport and fitness sector. Slightly different to where I am now as a Junior HR Consultant! However I really loved working with clients to delve deep into their business objectives and values to create meaningful and effective media campaigns. PR helped me to build my confidence in talking to a wide range of stakeholders, from customers to the CEO to influencers and celebrities. Working as an Account Manager brought a lot of variety of work as I was balancing different client needs, but I relished the challenge of always having to think creatively and innovatively in order to deliver against your client’s needs.
COVID-19 brought the opportunity to have a rethink about my career path, and having reflected on the parts of my role that I enjoyed and maybe wasn’t as keen on, I realised the parts I loved matched with the functions of a HR Assistant. Therefore I decided that I would be brave and carve out a new career path for myself. Fast forward several months and I am due to complete my Level 3 Certificate in Human Resources and I have secured a role within You HR as a Junior HR Consultant.
I am always eager to please and want to deliver the best work possible. As part of this I am always looking for ways to develop and improve the way I might deliver my work. Usually this means asking my colleagues for advice on their rules of best practice, and signing up to different trade magazines and ebulletins. I want to ensure I am always helpful and able to add value – be the best support system for clients that I can be!
Why You HR Consultancy:
You HR stood out from the very beginning of the recruitment process for me. From the first phone call with Gemma where she described the role and the company culture, I was hooked and knew that You HR was the company that I wanted to work for. The team obviously really care for and respect one another, and it was consistently highlighted how important our clients are and the importance of delivering a high standard. You HR are definitely all about the people, as emphasised by my fabulous virtual induction, and I know I am working within the perfect company to develop my career in HR.
I love to run! Not only do I get to be outside (I am lucky enough to live near some beautiful countryside routes) but it is the time where I reflect on everything and am able to get the best headspace and relaxation. I like to challenge myself and have run 2 marathons, 19 half marathons and 2 10ks to date. We’ve got quite the little family running group going too as both my parents run with me as well as my boyfriend.
Running also helps to offset my super sweet tooth – I have a penchant for sticky toffee pudding and chocolate chip cookies which I can’t ever seem to curb…
